A separate post has been added to provide better access to search aids for this weblog. Since I am not a software geek, I elected to use available weblog software for a research-type website. The software provides a number of special features in the left column which provide multiple links to each post. Consequently, each post usually appears multiple times in searches on key words. The search engine also indexes the words in the left column. Include "End of Post" in the search string to most eliminate multiple hits. The term "End of Post" only appears in the body of the post, and therefore limits to search to the full post.
The continuation of this post provides a few simple aids to help you with searches. Since the number of posts is approaching 100, the search engine may offer the quickest way to locate a post of interest.
Please refer to Welcome & Home for additional information on the content and organization of this website.

Search Aids for This Weblog — Governance of POAs (continued)
Simple Aids First Using FreeFind Search Engine
- Use the FreeFind Search Engine — This is usually the fastest and most complete way to locate a post of interest, but produces multiple results to the same posts for some search words and terms. The Google Search below sometimes produces fewer duplicates, but does not index the imbedded downloads from this weblog. Include "End of Post" in the search string to most eliminate multiple hits. The term "End of Post" only appears in the body of the post, and therefore limits to search to the full post.
- Getting Back — Click your browser's back button/arrow one or more times to return to your beginning page. Or, click on any item in the search results to return to this weblog, and then click on "Welcome & Home Page" — the first post in Recent Posts in the left column.
- Put search terms in quotation marks to narrow your search — For example, a search on <democratic principles> (the < > are not part of the search string) will provide hits for all posts that contain democratic AND principles. A search on <"democratic principles"> will provide only those posts that contain the term democratic principles with the words together.
- Find the items in the search list that don't have "index" in the "http//"
— Typically, the FreeFind search engine will
produce a "jackpot" of multiple hits to the same post if the words and/or terms you select are contained in the left column. To narrow the posts you read:
- Check URL's at bottom line of each search result — In the search results, check the URLs listed in italics (beginning http://) at the bottom of each search hit. The ones containing "index" just before "html" are to collections of posts for CATEGORIES or ARCHIVES (months) as described at the end of the top line. To just access posts, click only on those search hits that do not have "index" in the URL (http//) line.
- FreeFind also indexes selected internet links — While the duplication of posted results is a nuisance, the FreeFind feature also indexes the content of downloadable files that are provided by this weblog. Those are identified by a title which is the URL beginning in "hppt://".
- To avoid the duplication — For search results that only contain the posts (which also doesn't capture the downloadable files), use a Google or other search described in Other Search Engines.
- Searching on an index — If you click on a search
hit for which the URL contains "index", the FreeFind search engine will
produce a "jackpot" of multiple hits in a web page containing a
collection of the introductions for the posts in that category or
month.
- See "Use your Browser's Search/Find Command" to help you navigate what results.
- Or, read the introductions which are given in reverse chronological order, and click on the "Continue reading" at the bottom of the introduction.
- Searching on CATEGORIES and ARCHIVES — You can get the same result as above by clicking on the CATEGORY or ARCHIVE in the left column.
- Use your Browser's Search/Find Command — The software arranges the
posts for the MAIN page and for each CATEGORY or MONTH from most recent to most ancient. Most of the
views that appear on the right side of your screen are the
collection of introductions for the posts related to your selection. To find the post of interest:
- Use your browser's search/find command — usually under "edit —> find" — to find your word or subject of interest, and click on the "Continue reading" at the bottom of the introduction.
- Or, read the introductions which are given in reverse chronological order, and click on the "Continue reading" at the bottom of the introduction.
- Site Map — The Site Map in the search engine provides a compact listing of CATEGORIES and ARCHIVES (Months) for the collections of posts. It provides access to collections of posts that can also be accessed in CATEGORIES and ARCHIVES in the left column. See "Searching on an index" above for navigating the resulting web page.
- Search Capabilities and Techniques — All of the usual search methods can be used with both:
- single word, multiple words, phrase in quotation marks to match exact phrase, and limited Boolean algebra.
- Try with a search on <abuse>.
- Then try with the phrase <"Bill of Rights"> in quotation marks.
- After clicking on the particular post, use your browser's "edit --> find" command to locate the word or phrase.
- If your word or phrase isn't located, it may be in a "downloadable" file in the post.
Simple Aids For Using the Google Search Engine
This search engine basically works the same as it does for the www, except that the hits are limited to those posted as this site. However, it does not "hit" the the searched terms in the downloads imbedded in this weblog. The FreeFind Search engine does. The simple aids are:
- Eliminate Multiple Hits — Include "End of Post" in the search string to most eliminate multiple hits.
Please refer to Other Search Engines for This Weblog for an explanation of what the search engines for this site are providing. If you need more features, use the advanced search features of your search engine.
